If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

My aunt will be down presently, Mr. Nuttel, in the meantime you must trying talk with me.
It is very kind of you wait with me
You and mrs Sappleton… I looking forward to meet her… I’m sure
Do you know a many people around here?
Hardly a soul… My sister was staying at the rectory four years ago, and she given me some letters of introduction
Oh
Oh?
And you know practically nothing about my aunt?
I know her name and address,
A great tragedy happened just three years ago, that would be after your sister's time.
That tragedy?
You may wonder why we keep these French doors on such a cold afternoon.
It is quite warm for the time of the yeaк...
Out through those doors three years ago to a day my aunt’s husband and two her sons went off for the day shooting. They never came back... Crossing the moor to their favorite snipe-shooting grounds. All three were engulfed in a treacherous piece of bog. Their bodies were never recovered. It was the awful part of it. No grave, no marker. Poor aunt thinks that they will come back someday. They and the little brown Labrador that was lost with them, and walk in at that door as they used to do. She spend hours sitting waiting watching through the open doors. She won’t allow them to be shut until is dark outside.
I’m sorry!  Do sit down, mr. Nuttel
That was done shortly before they… poor dear aunt…
She often told me how they went out. Her husband with his waterproof coat over his arm, and Ronnie, her eldest son teasing her… The tea better be ready when we’ll return mama… That will be hell to pay. Do you know, sometimes on still, quiet evenings like this, I almost get a feeling that they all just walking through those doors.

I’m terrible, sorry, for keeping you waiting mr. Nuttle. I hope Vera was has been amusing
She is been very interesting
Oh, I hope you don’t mind the French doors. My husband and my sons will be home directly from shooting and they always coming this way. But they’ve been out for snipe in the marshes today and so they'll make a fine mess of my carpets. Typical of you men folk, isn’t it?
There're calling it nervous exhaustion… It's in the family… as you know my sister
Is it tea ready? Make sure the rest.
I seem remember your sister.. yes, sweet lady … as your don’t sort come down so much anymore. I hope you stay with a peaceful
Are you a shooting man, mr Nuttle? Milk?
Just a little
My husband the same. This last few years the rain in the moor, you see? It’s made in infernal quagmire at the marshes
The doctors agree in ordering me complete rest, an absence of mental excitement, and anything in the nature of violent physical exercise
On the subject of diet though they are not in such agreement.
No? Here they are at last! And don't look at it they were muddy up to the eyes!
The tea better be ready, mama?
Oh, you come in with muddy
No fairly muddy, but most of it's dry. You need to get used to it as a bigger war
Oh, please I don’t talk about that.
We'll be home by Christmas you'll see.
Who was that who bolted out as we came up?
A most extraordinary man, a Mr. Nuttel, could only talk about his illnesses, and dashed off without a word of goodby or apology when you come in.
I expect it was the Labrador, he told me he had a horror of dogs. He was once hunted into a cemetery on the banks of the Ganges by a pack of pariah dogs, and had to spend the night in a newly dug grave with the creatures snarling and grinning and foaming just above him. Enough to make anyone lose their nerve.
